We are looking for a talented and motivated engineer for identifying, developing, and integrating more efficient powertrain and drivetrain technologies in our current and next generation client vehicles. This position is responsible for project success as part of a project team providing technical support to internal customers in the area of Propulsion System Development/Vehicle R&D. Travel requirement for this position is up to 10%, primarily domestic and occasional international business trip would be required. The ideal candidate must have the following capabilities and be able to significantly contribute to achievement of the team's objectives:
• Setup and conduct vehicle testing for fuel economy, efficiency benchmarking, and analyze the test data using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
• Investigation and development of new, more efficient technologies and strategies that enable short-term and long-term benefits for production vehicles
• Integrate new technologies in targeted vehicle applications and execute appropriate test program(s) for validation of technologies' benefits
• Research current regulatory requirements, including testing procedures, and provide concise information to help other engineers understand technical requirements to support our test and development activities
• Support engineering teams within client and our client R&D Center to define and demonstrate vehicle efficiency improvement concepts and technologies in vehicle applications through testing and simulation
• Coordinate and track development test plans and status
• Create and present reports, with documentation of technical analysis, system trade-offs as well as business case for technologies

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related engineering degree from accredited university
• At least 1 year of industry experience (including internship/co-op experience) in one or more of following areas: (1) instrumentation and testing of vehicle propulsion systems and related technologies, (2) analyzing vehicle performance, emissions, and fuel economy/efficiency test data, (3) application of model-based analysis and/or simulation for determination of vehicle-level performance/efficiency
• Ability to write detailed technical reports and ability to clearly present results and recommendations to other engineers and management team
• Strong interpersonal and technical problem solving skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of internal combustion engines, transmissions, electrified vehicle systems, general vehicle dynamics and basic vehicle controls/calibration areas
• Experience with data acquisition systems and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA
• Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
• Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
• Masters of Science in related Engineering field from an accredited university
• 2+ years of total industry experience in one or more of following areas: (1) instrumentation and testing of vehicle propulsion systems and related technologies, (2) analyzing vehicle performance, emissions, and fuel economy/efficiency test data, (3) application of model-based analysis and/or simulation for determination of vehicle-level performance/efficiency
• Knowledge and experience in programming languages such as Python, R, C+ or similar
• Knowledge and experience in control logic, logic development and evaluation to support vehicle development projects

This is what you’ll need:
• Must have 2-4 years’ experience in automotive industry.
• Bachelor of Science in Motorsports Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field.
• Understanding of Industry Standards (such as SAE) and Regulations (US, EU, and China) regarding vehicle fuel economy and emissions testing and labeling requirements.
• Demonstrated reliability and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Deep curiosity to understand the product and how the regulations may be applied.
• Experience with formal requirement management tools (Confluence, Jira, and Design Verification Plan and Report, etc.) preferred but not a must have.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across the Rivian organization as well as with external suppliers and vendors.
