EWG’s Healthy Living Team analyzes a wide variety of data on personal care products, home cleaning products and other consumer products, processed food and pesticides. We do this to identify risky practices and products to collaborate and innovate with manufacturers and industries directly, challenging the status quo to protect public health.

The Senior Scientist will work with the Healthy Living team to provide innovative research on consumer products focused on the environment and public health protection.

Responsibilities:
• Provide advanced scientific support and assessment of safety of ingredients in cosmetics, food, cleaning products, sunscreens, and other consumer products. Knowledge of nutrition science is a plus.
• Compile, analyze and manage data on toxicity and chemical regulations of product ingredients and environmental contaminants. You will be a leading member of the team that builds and maintains the EWG VERIFIED programs alongside EWG's popular online databases rating the safety of common sources of chemical exposures.
• Lead toxicological hazard and risk evaluations to support certification and consultancy program needs, with coverage of raw material, formulation, and final product safety and ecological assessments.
• Research and advise on best practices, or identify new, testing methodologies for products, ingredients and contaminants.
• In collaboration with all EWG teams, propose and implement stringent public health-based standards and criteria.
• Provide toxicological summaries and guidance documents and advise internal and external stakeholders on complex problems.
• Anticipate emerging impacts and remain up-to-date on new toxicology and environmental health issues relevant to EWG project areas.
• Help EWG transform company practices and national policies to reduce people’s exposures to chemicals that pose risks to health.
• Develop and maintain consumer education resources about the health effects of chemicals in consumer products.

Qualifications and experience:
• Master’s or PhD degree in Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology, Epidemiology, Environmental Health or a related Science field. Comparable training and/or experience can be substituted for degrees when appropriate.
• Minimum 5 years’ related professional work experience in toxicology, chemical risk assessment, environmental health, public health, green chemistry or related field.
• Knowledge of chemical regulations/regulatory toxicology-related compliance with global and national safety regulations.
• The ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

Ability to explain and present complex scientific and regulatory compliance issues and solutions to diverse audiences.

This design internship is a great opportunity to support an internal design team, operating as an agency, help connect consumers, policy makers and advocates to EWG's important mission. Under the direction of the Senior Graphic Designer, you will support members of the creative team by executing on creative concepts, social campaigns and digital strategies. Market research suggests the “natural” beauty movement is on track to grow to $25 billion by 2025. In the past few years, interest in personal care products claiming to be clean and natural has grown dramatically, with no federal regulation for either claim. EWG’s large consumer community, combined with our decades of research in this space, has allowed EWG to grow our EWG VERIFIED licensing program.

To continue this growth, EWG is hiring an Administrative Associate to support our EWG VERIFIED program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage new EWG VERIFIED applications and submissions
• Check application materials to ensure all needed documents are submitted
• Correspond with brands if further information is needed and answer all related questions
• Notify EWG’s science and accounting teams of all new applications
• Create new brand accounts and new opportunities into EWG’s contract management platform Salesforce
• Partner with EWG’s science team on brand communication throughout the evaluation process with the goal of brand retention
• Manage new EWG VERIFIED brand prospects
• Work closely with EWG team to identify brand prospects·
• Respond to all brand inquiries
• Hold informational calls, take notes, and send email recaps

• Request new contracts and amendments (C/As) from the general counsel in Asana
• Update new C/As in Salesforce and with Accounts Payable

Qualifications:

• Oversee the development and implementation of social media content in line with each platform’s best practices and audience trends.
• Spearhead the creation of viral social content and campaigns, pushing us to innovate in our storytelling across platforms, tied to organizational priorities and in collaboration with related departments.
• Collaborate with creative, communications and government affairs teams to generate engaging campaigns around key initiatives.
• Identify new social media platforms where EWG might establish a presence and define strategy to build new audiences.
• Work with the Manager of Impacts and Parterships to identify influencers and develop strategic partnerships.

• Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications.
• Manage monthly paid social budget and determine how to best use it to support organization goals, social referral traffic and channel growth.

Qualifications:
• Experience: 3 to 5 years leading social for a nonprofit or consumer-facing brand.
• Keen understanding of the “social media world” – you have seen every meme, spend hours on Instagram and Twitter, and geek out about algorithms.
• Knowledge of social media analytics and reporting. Experience with publishing platform such as Sprout Social strongly preferred.
• Experience implementing paid social campaigns across different social media platforms.
• Proficiency in Google Analytics.
• Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Strong writing skills.
• You have excellent judgment, use common sense and learn new things quickly. You are a self-starter and a creative brainstormer.
• Ability to travel when required.

Preferred qualifications:
• Working knowledge of Photoshop or other graphic creation platforms a plus.
• Knowledge of EWG’s issues and a curiosity about the impact of the environment on our health.

This entry-level position is a great opportunity to help EWG’s advocacy as you learn about key digital channels, including email, social media and web. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Digital Strategies, the Digital Associate will support members of EWG’s Digital team by producing regular reports on key digital metrics, assisting in the execution of our email program and supporting our grassroots fundraising program.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic self-starter who will also work with the Digital Vice President and Senior Director to help create superior digital communications and assess their performance.

What you will do:
• Create weekly reports on digital fundraising and advocacy metrics to help the Digital team make data-driven decisions about ongoing strategy.
• Help build and send email newsletters.
• Report on EWG’s list growth and email performance.
• Run queries, create reports and share analytics upon request.
• Support EWG’s grassroots fundraising, including assistance with donor communications and premium program management.
• Contribute to brainstorming sessions to develop campaign ideas and improve digital efforts.
