Etsy’s Site Reliability Engineering team is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer II to join us in our mission of building and supporting reliable large scale infrastructure. The SRE team owns several aspects of business critical infrastructure and services that enable developers to efficiently build and create technology as well as support the uptime of etsy.com. You’ll get exposure to a variety of technologies ranging from Kubernetes, Golang, Terraform, Prometheus, Consul and more as you build systems to support the services that support our +100M active users! As the Software Engineer II, SRE you will drive the adoption of containers and Kubernetes, improve reliability, automating the operations and providing a self-service runtime platform to accelerate Etsy’s product engineering, and contribute to the design and implementation of Observability & CI/CD on top of Kubernetes.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Site Reliability Engineering. What’s this team like at Etsy?
This team improves the Developer experience, helping them build, deploy, release and observe applications transparently on Google Kubernetes Engine. They work on 10+ Kubernetes clusters with hundreds of nodes running services with low latency requirements. This team also standardizes cluster and application security with Gatekeeper admission policies and container vulnerability scanning, as well as SLI/O creation for all services across Kubernetes Platform.
What does the day-to-day look like?
• Coordinate GKE clusters and automate operations like provisioning and service observability.
• Support the partner teams running their workloads on the Kubernetes Platform.
• Collaborate with multi-functional engineering teams to improve the adoption of Kubernetes and increase efficiency.
• Build paved paths for wider product engineering with codelabs, documentation, automation and self-service portals to develop, deploy and operate services on GKE.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and seek opportunities for reducing toil and avoiding technical debt to reduce support and operations load on the team.

What’s the role?
Etsy is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the SRE team. They’ll be responsible for the core infrastructure & services behind etsy.com. As the Engineering Manager of an SRE team, you will be growing and empowering a globally distributed team by giving them the confidence to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success, and enable them to become technical leaders. You will be responsible for the team's technical strategy and roadmap in close collaboration with many engineering teams.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of Foundation SRE. We're looking for someone who has the courage and experience to be frank and ambitious but humble enough to listen to others. You’ll communicate early and often, building trust and collaboration between engineers and teams across multiple countries and time zones. What does the day-to-day look like?
• Establish and lead the operational rhythm for the team (standups, retrospectives, planning, roadmaps).
• Build, lead and mentor your team on communication (up, down, and sidewards), technical strategy, delivery, and execution.
• Work closely and collaboratively with partner teams, understand their problems, and be flexible to changes in the roadmap.
• Define methods and success metrics for both the projects in progress and future proposals.
• Lead all aspects of people development - Mentor, Performance evaluations, Promotions, Hiring, and Retention.

Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
• Significant hands-on experience as a software engineer / SRE / System Admin, preferably in a cloud environment, with the last 3+ years in technical team management.
• Successful track record of leading teams of 5 to 8 engineers who build and support distributed systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex technical issues accurately to technical and non-technical audiences at different levels of detail.
• You have experience in making data-driven decisions and are flexible to course correct and iterate at scale.
• You’ve developed strong mechanisms for organizing, tracking, and measuring tracks of technical work, and making them visible to your team.
• You know what motivates your team and you are able to carve out the necessary space for them to do their best work.
• You are engaged in technical decisions and discussions but you know when to defer to technical leaders around you.
• You have a clear understanding of the direction your team needs to take to achieve their goals and establish success metrics to iteratively progress towards it.
