The Role
We are seeking a Strategy Manager to join the Payments Strategy Team. You will help craft and drive strategy development across the Payments & Risk organization, in support of business needs and priorities of eBay’s markets and regions. You will form hypotheses, structuring and conducting/overseeing analysis and articulating strategic options and plans for the Payments business. You will work with a wide variety of business leaders, product teams, solutions managers and other key partners across the organization to help translate their business needs into creative strategies to solve for these business needs. You will also drive industry and market research to identify unmet payments and risk needs and trends and support proactive formulation of strategies in response to these developments.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic planning
• Support the development of the Payment organization’s 3-year plan in terms of payment market approaches, products, experiences, and capabilities
• Ensure that strategy execution is consistent with original intent and manage change controls
• Aggregate organization needs, requests, and plans to feed yearly financial and capacity planning and resource strategies
• Special projects: Lead payments projects that require long-term viewpoints, cross-functional coordination, specific market expertise, or are on critical path
• Be point person for solving complex strategic and analytic challenges that face Payments and build frameworks and models to support grounded recommendations.
• Manage and conduct analysis of partner capabilities, joint offering, pricing, and terms, both in response to specific business needs and proactively find opportunities for future optimization
• Market intelligence: Identify payments and risk needs and trends that span the market and integrate these needs into strategy formulation
• Provide broad expertise in payments economics, offerings, and propositions across markets for solution teams, product teams and other partners

• Problem solving: work with senior executives to identify, scope, and structure key strategy initiatives
• Analytical thinking: exceptional quantitative analytical & data management skills
• Relationship building: partner with cross-functional teams and become a go-to thought partner for key decision makers

About The Opportunity
eBay Motors is a multi-billion dollar portfolio comprising the Vehicles, Parts & Accessories, Business & Industrial, Heavy Equipment and WHI (Nexpart B2B Marketplace) businesses in the US. These categories are not only among the largest on eBay and core to eBay’s strategic future, but are also actively innovating in the market and at eBay.
We are looking to hire a Senior Manager of Product Strategy, Operations & Analytics, located in the San Francisco Bay area, who will support the eBay Motors leadership team and play an instrumental role in accelerating growth across the Motors’ portfolio of assets. The role will be at the forefront of shaping and driving strategy, while ensuring operational excellence in planning, analytics, reporting, and collaboration across a broad cross-functional team. Our key partners include product, marketing, analytics, finance, operations, pricing, and business development, among many others.
The role demands a dual mentality: both that of a strategic leader—who has a deep understanding of the dynamics of two-sided marketplaces, can break down tough problems into clear frameworks, operate in ambiguity, and possesses strong data intuition and executive-ready communications—as well as someone who can move quickly and decisively as an embedded operator not afraid to get their hands dirty.
Responsibilities
• Serve as strategic thought leader to the Motors leadership team
• Build and own executive-ready presentations on Motors strategy and operational updates
• Identify and executive against opportunities across Motors that require strategic deep dives
• Drive progress against milestones for key strategic initiatives
• Create operational consistency and alignment across the portfolio
• Own tracking and reporting of portfolio health to eBay global leadership teams
• Partner with GMs and Category Managers to manage key budget decisions and impact on P&L
• Establish processes and guardrails to ensure operational success in Motors
• Enable market intelligence capabilities to monitor competitive insights, industry trends, and distill Motors-specific implications
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners; ensure alignment with other eBay verticals, other eBay teams, and global initiatives
Qualifications
• Track record of strategic leadership, structured thinking, and ability to prioritize against multiple initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to project manage a group of peers and lead through influence
• Strong cross-functional leader who is also recognized as a collaborator and partner
• Executive level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to tell a compelling story backed by data

We are looking to hire a Senior Manager of Product Strategy, Operations & Analytics, located in the San Francisco Bay area, who will support the eBay Motors leadership team and play an instrumental role in accelerating growth across the Motors’ portfolio of assets. The role will be at the forefront of shaping and driving strategy, while ensuring operational excellence in planning, analytics, reporting, and collaboration across a broad cross-functional team. Our key partners include product, marketing, analytics, finance, operations, pricing, and business development, among many others.
The role demands a dual mentality: both that of a strategic leader—who has a deep understanding of the dynamics of two-sided marketplaces, can break down tough problems into clear frameworks, operate in ambiguity, and possesses strong data intuition and executive-ready communications—as well as someone who can move quickly and decisively as an embedded operator not afraid to get their hands dirty.
Responsibilities
• Serve as strategic thought leader to the Motors leadership team
• Build and own executive-ready presentations on Motors strategy and operational updates
• Identify and executive against opportunities across Motors that require strategic deep dives
• Drive progress against milestones for key strategic initiatives
• Create operational consistency and alignment across the portfolio
• Own tracking and reporting of portfolio health to eBay global leadership teams
• Partner with GMs and Category Managers to manage key budget decisions and impact on P&L
• Establish processes and guardrails to ensure operational success in Motors
• Enable market intelligence capabilities to monitor competitive insights, industry trends, and distill Motors-specific implications
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners; ensure alignment with other eBay verticals, other eBay teams, and global initiatives
Qualifications
• Track record of strategic leadership, structured thinking, and ability to prioritize against multiple initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to project manage a group of peers and lead through influence

The Team

The Opportunity
• We are currently seeking a "Deal Captain" / Director to join our team. On a typical transaction, this individual will play the role of "Deal Captain", responsible for all aspects of the transaction, including managing a cross-functional team involving colleagues from our Business Units, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, IT, and Product/Engineering teams.
• The Deal Captain will report to the Head of Corporate Development. This is a high profile role with significant executive exposure inside and outside of eBay, at a global level. The Deal Captain is expected to bring significant expertise to the role with the ability to lead across all the team responsibilities listed above. The role requires a blend of strong strategic problem-solving, management and deal experience, and team-building skills, in a highly dynamic business environment.
• The Deal Captain will be involved in identifying prospective target opportunities, understanding fit within eBay's strategic pillars, performing strategic and quantitative analysis, conducting due diligence, determining appropriate valuation and structure, developing strategy for and conducting negotiations, driving activities to closure, and coordinating with our M&A Integration team.
• This role provides a unique opportunity to gain a deep understanding of eBay, our industry and to lead transactions ranging from strategic investments and the related commercial deal, to smaller tech and talent tuck-ins, to larger scale M&A. $168,400 - $262,900
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience.
