The Outreach Associate works closely with colleagues across DIS to provide high-touch advising and support to diverse students and their universities, with a focus on recruiting, engaging, and retaining students in the application and pre-departure phases of their study abroad journey. This position includes several weeks per year of in-person on-campus and virtual visits at DIS partner universities across the U.S. to recruit and advise students and meet with education abroad staff; student advising via phone, email, on campus and in virtual advising sessions; collaborating with Directors and teammates to develop communication content and strategies; tracking student progress and preparation for study abroad; coordinating print distribution; conducting online market research; and supporting events and conferences. This position reports to the Director of Outreach.

60% Student Outreach & Support

-Serve as first point of contact for admitted students preparing to study at DIS, as well as their universities and families

-Conduct admissions interviews, review student applications for admission, and make admission recommendations

-Guide students through visa and residence permit applications; assemble applications and advise students and their families and home universities in collaboration with DIS colleagues and embassy/consulate staff

-Track student registration submissions to completion, ensuring student preparedness

-Develop and deliver tailored pre-departure communications and materials (presentations, newsletters, online modules, social media, etc) that resonate with students, partners, and parents from diverse communities and cultures

30% Campus Outreach & Support

-Represent DIS nationally at partner schools through campus visits in order to sustain and build enrollment

-Plan, book, and conduct own campus visit tours, including study abroad fairs, meetings with students and faculty, information sessions, classroom presentations, and pre-departure orientations

-Support DIS participation in campus visits and events including tracking event details, assembling and shipping materials and communicating information to staff attendees

-Learn about the universities and majors that utilize DIS programs, including potential areas of curricular growth

-Communicate updates with faculty and advisors and discuss/interpret their needs for further DIS growth opportunities

10% Administrative and Other Duties

-Data collection and analysis, market research, communication campaign tracking, and other ad hoc

-Provide support to Director and Assistant Director of Outreach

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal to four years
• Ability and willingness to travel nationally several weeks each semester including by car, plane, and mass transit, including evenings and weekends
• Candidates must be able to carry boxes and materials (up to ~50 pounds)

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience living, working, studying, interning, or volunteering in another cultural context, and the ability to articulate the value thereof
• Strong written and oral communication, including comfort with public speaking
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Detail-oriented, self-directed, and the ability to handle multiple tasks with a flexible, positive, proactive attitude
• Ability to clearly and respectfully communicate and work well with all levels of an organization (including students, staff, faculty, and administrators) and with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Experience with FileMaker Pro, PowerPoint, and Excel
• A sense of humor!

Who are we?

DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia is a Danish non-profit educational foundation with programs in Copenhagen and Stockholm and a North American Office in St Paul, Minnesota. We offer high-impact semester, academic year, summer, and custom learning experiences taught in English to undergraduate students from distinguished North American colleges and universities. By inspiring each student’s curiosity and love of learning, DIS fosters academic achievement, intercultural understanding, and development of life skills essential for engaged citizenship.

Our North American Office consists of 20 international educators who advise, recruit, prepare, enroll, and support prospective and enrolled students. Working closely with 200 U.S. Partner Universities, we build and maintain pathways for study abroad as well as staff and faculty engagement with education abroad.
