Human Dimensions of Organizations (HDO) in the College of Liberal
Arts at The University of Texas at Austin teaches students to apply
lessons from the humanities and social/behavioral sciences in
workplace contexts. HDO offers a BA, an MA, and professional
training. HDO offers a unique opportunity to create innovative
coursework and teach courses on the cutting-edge of liberal-arts
pedagogy.

HDO seeks to develop a pool of candidates for possible
temporary/non-tenure track positions to teach undergraduate and/or
graduate courses. Positions are not available every semester and
are contingent upon student enrollment and the availability of
funding. Appointments are normally made on a semester-by-semester
basis, though sometimes a yearlong appointment may be made.
Positions are renewable annually, contingent upon funding and
performance.

Qualifications

A PhD and a record of teaching excellence are preferred. Experience
teaching and/or conducting research on the applied nature of the
humanities and/or the social/behavioral sciences are also
preferred.

We are looking for an experienced Chemist to be the company’s key knowledge resource for rubber and urethane materials for our Port Washington, WI location. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will work closely with customers, suppliers, Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance to develop and optimize rubber and urethane formulas and process parameters for performance in application, ease of processing, availability of supply, and overall cost.

Experience with rubber and/or urethane chemistry required.

Principal Duties

1. Develops and recommends compounds/formulas/ingredients for new and existing items:
• Obtains pricing, properties data, color matches, etc. from material suppliers.
• Compounds materials, molds test pieces, performs material testing, and evaluates results to validate conformance to specification.
• Recommends and evaluates replacements and substitutions.
• Maintains an accurate and thorough database of all formulas, with ASTM D2000 performance specifications and typical results, specific gravities, etc.
• Prepare technical data sheets for customers.

2. Oversees material-related measuring, testing and processing parameters used in manufacturing:
• Develops/reviews milling and mixing procedures.
• Develops rheometer curve limit specifications.
• Trouble-shoots material processing problems
• Shelf-Life Inventory: Dispositions non-conforming and aged lots of material
• Assures that Foreign Distribution product conforms to its ASTM D2000 specification.
• Recommends metal prep methods and adhesive systems.
• Recommends cryogenic deflashing temperatures and durations.
• Participates in Mill Rescue Team

3. Educates internal and external customers about materials by:
• Maintaining active formula quoting guides for quoting and material selection, with overviews of properties, processability, availability and cost
• Acting as a consultant to others on new product development, trouble-shooting existing items, investigating field failures, and purchasing processing equipment
• Assisting in sales presentations and internal material training

4. Oversees the materials lab:
• Purchases and maintains all lab equipment and software.
• Develops internal test methods in accordance with industry practices.
• Maintains procedures and records.

5. Reviews our material portfolio against market needs and industry developments, recommending new:
• compounds and ingredients
• suppliers
• testing and production methods
• technologies and equipment

6. Performs other duties assigned, to include:
• Manage safety data sheets – production and lab
• Control incoming experimental materials.
• Environmental compliance – reach, ROHS, conflict minerals, PROP 65
• Manage IMDS system/submissions.

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering.
• 3-5 years industrial experience with rubber and/or urethane materials, including a thorough understanding of ASTM D2000 standards, testing procedures and equipment. Rubber and urethane formulation experience required.
• Strong verbal communication skills, ability to create detailed technical documentation, effective prioritization of multiple projects from multiple requestors, focus on serving internal customers, willingness to share knowledge, ability to make sound and confident decisions, analytical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to run, or learn to run, Lab Mill.

In addition to fieldwork, you may also be called upon to provide consultation, specialized technical assistance, design, research, analysis, and reporting to understand and enhance the visitor experience and social sustainability on OSMP properties; and to perform related duties as required.

Job Description:

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts field-based scientific data collection
• Administer on-site visitor surveys using established department protocols and survey platforms.
• Collect quantitative observational data on recreation/visitor behavior, including - but not limited to - compliance with existing regulations such as dog management and resource protection measures.
• Measure the level and extent of recreation visits across the OSMP land system through the deployment, calibration, general maintenance, and data retrieval of automated visitation monitoring equipment, including trail counters, vehicle counters, and field cameras.

Technical assistance and management
• Perform data entry and quality assurance and control procedures using various platforms including – but not limited to – SQL and Microsoft Access databases, Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Online, and Survey123.
• Uses analytical and business intelligence platforms such as ESRI Dashboards and Power BI to monitor, manage and evaluate data collection efforts.

Communication
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers by carefully listening and understanding issues and communicating program and department goals, findings, and project statuses.
• Develop and present professional written and oral reports on programs and projects to departmental staff and the public.

Other
• Take proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, equipment and vehicles. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property.

Experience: A Bachelor's degree with at least two years specialized experience collecting

recreation data in a park or protected area setting. Examples of specialized experience include

– but are not limited to - conducting visitor surveys, using automated trail counters,

conducting vehicle and visitor site counts, observing and coding visitor behaviors,

transportation monitoring, GPS mapping, and inputting and analyzing data.

OR: An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Attention to detail, critical thinking, and data organization.
• Ability to collect and organize quantitative and qualitative data and communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; ability to prepare technical data summaries and reports; ability to work tactfully and effectively with the public and fellow workers.
• Able to maintain concentration on visitor behaviors for extended periods of time and accurately record observations.
• Physical ability to perform tasks in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions; to lift and carry equipment; to stand, walk, and kneel while performing duties over rough terrain on a regular basis.
• Valid Colorado driver's license.
• Have and maintain acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Technician may be required to use his or her personal vehicle for this work and if required to use personal vehicle, will be reimbursed for mileage.

• Knowledge and experience with visitor monitoring, and Human Dimensions research.
• Experience working for public land management agencies in the Wildland/Urban interface and/or in the Front Range of Colorado.
• Familiarity with Microsoft suite, spreadsheets and database skills.
• Strong proficiency with ArcGIS.
• Outstanding organizational and superior customer service skills.
• Experience with various automated visitation monitoring equipment.
• Experienced in the use of statistical software such as SPSS, R, SAS, or similar software package.
