What We Do

Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.
What You'll Do

The Engineering Lead will support a team of Software Engineers in providing developers the infrastructure and tools currently powering the entire Epic online platform to create game experiences like never before. In order to accomplish this it requires a team including Testers, Analysts and other disciplines. A successful candidate will be able to work across all the various functions to achieve their goals. In this role, you will
• Team Management - understanding strengths and opportunities for growth, surfacing opportunities for development

What we’re looking for

• Proven track record of guiding a team on operational excellence for distributed online solutions including system health, monitoring and troubleshooting
• Ability to manage a team roadmap and update stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of a project

In this role, you will
• Drive development of the Outsource Management team by providing strong mentorship, guidance, and growth opportunities, and own Team Organization and Processes.
• Partner with Fortnite and Epic leadership to understand, plan and execute on outsource strategy for content creation and co-development across the company.
• Champion outsource development and best practices across Epic, building healthy partnerships and workflows with discipline and product teams.
• Collaborate with Epic’s internal contracts and procurement teams to understand industry standard rates for services and negotiate contract terms with external vendors.
• Drive the processes for tracking all external vendors: sourcing, evaluations, statements of work, and vendor expectations.

What we're looking for

What We Do

Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.

What You'll Do

We are currently looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Online Game Services team. In this role at Epic, you'll be at the center of services that power Fortnite and related experiences for products around the globe.

You will craft highly available, high throughput, low latency services at scale, synchronous and asynchronous services, persistent connection services, and a variety of other systems. From design, implementation, and deployment you'll be able to shape the services and features that drive the future of our products. We're looking for a skilled, dependable innovator who works well with others and enjoys finding creative solutions.

In this role, you will

• Get things done:
Epic empowers engineers to assess a challenge, craft a solution, and implement it.

• Write distributed systems to handle large scale challenges (we use Java).

• Work with public cloud infrastructure to facilitate a fast moving ecosystem (we use AWS).

• Own the entire lifecycle of services, including live operations and deployment.

• Craft solutions using modern SQL and nonrelational databases (we use Mongodb, Dynamo and Redis).

• Work together with both upstream and downstream service owners, producers and other cloud, infrastructure and embedded Dev Ops engineers to ship solutions.

• Own the outcome - Be accountable for the solutions you build and flexible around the ambiguity of the problem space.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with experience in developing online systems.

• Experience as a technical leader, designing and architecting the technical vision and serving as a mentor to other engineers.

• Proven track record of operating live services

Experience working with a team of engineers to solve large and ambiguous problems.

• Excellent communication skills including the ability to provide, solicit and accept feedback constructively.
