The person in this role is expected to... brainstorm with reporters and editors, generate innovative ideas and make news-driven video decisions. You will also work with our audience team to create audience-focused content for our digital platforms.

This position requires a high level of organization and responsibility. You will oversee video projects from pre-production to post-production, help create and maintain an efficient video workflow and help develop a video style guide for our team.

Candidates must have at least five years of experience and demonstrate versatility covering breaking news, sports, and features.

Photography skills are a must. On occasion, you will also be required to photograph news, features and sports assignments for print and digital media.

You will be joining a digital newsroom that is thinking actively and creatively about our future; we are looking for someone who will come to this role with an abundance of ideas and energy. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible rotating schedule that can include nights, a few holidays, and weekends.

This position is based in Dallas. While our coverage area is mainly North Texas, we routinely send visual journalists beyond the region. All candidates are required to have a car and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in photography, film, video or a related field
• 5-10 years of experience as a videographer or photojournalist is usually necessary to develop expert newspaper photography and video skills
• Must be proficient in Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop and Photo Mechanic
• Experience shooting and editing video and photos on deadline
• Social media and blogging also required
• Ability to apply camera operation as well as extensive knowledge of lighting different types of sets
• Must be proficient in using a digital camera in the transmission of photographic images
• Must be proficient in capturing and editing audio for video and podcasts
• Must also be able to demonstrate basic writing skills
• Ability to write accurate, detailed captions
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Firm understanding of journalistic ethics

• Partners with editors and reporters as requested with story elements including, but not limited to, relevant video/photos, transcriptions, and editorial research
• Pulls archival content for stories, social media and other projects as assigned
• Creates content for online and print, social media posts and newsletters
• Completes public information requests, acquires data and helps create datasets
• Develops and maintains relationships with sources and experts

We’re looking for a reporter who brings both strong journalism fundamentals and a passion for connecting with the community. This journalist will work as part of a five-member team that leads Texas in quickly providing context to breaking education news as well as identifying and writing revealing, smart enterprise stories.
