Code.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to computer science and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities. Through its website, Code.org offers a variety of programs and resources to help teach coding to students of all ages and backgrounds. Its main platform, Code Studio, features an interactive coding environment with tutorials and other resources to help students learn coding. Code.org also runs a global Hour of Code initiative, which encourages students to spend an hour learning coding and computer science. As a Staff Software Engineer at Code.org, you’ll deliver software products and operate services used by tens of millions of students and teachers in K-12 classrooms around the world.

As a member of our engineering team, reporting to the CTO, you will:
• Work across the engineering org, leading the re-architecture and reduction of technical debt across our platform.
• Regularly create and share prototypes that demonstrate new directions in thinking or alternative technologies (such as moving to a new language or toolset). Work with the CTO and engineering teams to bring these to implementation.
• Be a recognized contributor to the core code parts across the codebase, working in conjunction with other engineers across the org.
• Help identify and resolve "unowned" areas of our codebase, bringing clarity of ownership and refactoring as necessary.
• Contribute to the org by joining one or more teams in an "away-team" mode, helping move that team forward (by starting new initiatives or putting things back on track).
• Inspire others across the org with technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Be seen as a technical role model across the engineering org, serving as an advisor and mentor for multiple engineers across multiple teams.

We seek candidates who have:
• Passion for our mission of growing access to computer science education
• Experience with building consumer-grade web applications, including JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and SQL
• Experience supporting a production high-scale web-based software product or service using cloud technologies, including AWS
• Experience leading architectural change and/or setting technical direction

JOB SUMMARY As the Event Coordinator, you will support Code.org’s event team with events and conferences ranging from small fundraising receptions, 100+ all-staff meetings, and conferences for 350+ attendees. We’re looking for someone who can balance multiple projects at the same time, and has a strong sense of customer service. This role will support attendee communications, travel and hotel coordination, venue research, and lead small projects. This role is on the marketing team, but works cross-functionally with many teams at Code.org.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Event lead for small, single day events and receptions
• Arrange and coordinate hotel room blocks for conferences.
• Correspond with conference attendees and handle event communications, including maintaining and updating conference websites, as appropriate.
• Research event locations for future Code.org events and provide summary presentations of the top location choices.
• Be responsible for the events@code.org email account - the primary point of contact for event attendees.
• Schedule internal and external meetings with planning committees, team members speakers, and partners
• Maintain the primary source of record for event schedules, and update additional documents as needed.
• Collect and organize collateral from event speakers and sponsors
• Assist in the technical facilitation of virtual events
• Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

• 2 or more years of prior event experience in the hospitality, association, or non-profit sectors.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
• Proficiency with a broad variety of tools, including Google Suite, spreadsheet functions, video conferencing, form builders, etc
• Excellent customer service skills and thinks of the event attendee’s experience first
• Precise attention to detail and organization
• A self-starter, multitasker and able to work independently with a geographically dispersed team.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time
• Flexbility to adjust working hours to accommodate “busy periods” leading up to events

We prefer candidates who also have:

• Prior experience in registration softwares such as CVENT
• Passion about creating and maintaining organizational systems
• Experience working with event speakers and VIPs
• Experience working on a gala or fundraising event
• Strong understanding of Excel and Google Sheet formulas
