Job Purpose

As the creative lead on BBC.com’s features team, you will have an opportunity to create break-through design concepts and execute them across a variety of mediums and formats, contributing to our visual identity and being sure it’s carried through on every piece of content we put out. Whether a quick turn story reacting to the day’s news, a deeply reported feature with on-the-ground photography, or a graphic package for an onsite video: With your help these will all look and feel BBC — elevated, exclusive, and engaging.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Reporting in to the Head of Multimedia on the photo and art desk, helping direct the overall visual narrative and graphics on features articles and video

• Implement and maintain our brand standards

• Create moodboards and visual directions presenting breakthrough visual ideas to elevate the aesthetic impact of BBC.com feature articles, social and video content

• Work with external vendors, including photographers, illustrators, agencies and more

• Help identify and develop efficiencies in the creative processes

• Review versioned artwork, approving items at critical steps

• Compose and adjust visuals strategy to address key business KPIs of reach, revenue, and reputation to always create work that performs

• Above all else be a creative visionary who understands engaging visual storytelling

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

• You are a strong communicator, both visually and verbally, and eager to collaborate across a global team of engaged journalists, editors, and video producers

• You are an enthusiastic storyteller, understanding the importance and need for crafting beautiful visual narratives

• Highly independent, but highly collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing shifting priorities

• You have a passion for news and culture and like pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design

Professional Experience

• 7+ years experience in media (digital publishing preferred; social content creation a bonus)

• You have experienced in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

• Has a deep understanding and is passionate about visual hierarchy, branding, color systems, typography, layouts, photography and how these elements come together to create impactful designs

• Photo research experience in an editorial environment and using key Stock databases (Getty, etc.) as well as sourcing and commissioning original photography

Compensation

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $90,000-$100,000 dependent on experience & market conditions. Job Purpose

The Manager for Content Planning & Programming in the BBC Global Digital News & Streaming group will support collaborative editorial planning initiatives for content across BBC.com News, Sport & Features, the BBC News Channel, Podcasts, and Documentaries. The Content Planning & Programming Manager will be the point-person for collecting, filtering, and disseminating program plans and editorial initiatives across the organization. They will shape the editorial calendar, and their work will contribute to synergies that will enhance the BBC.com content experience for consumers and consequently help support revenue and audience growth in ex-UK markets.

Relationships

As part of day-to-day responsibilities, the Content Planning & Programming Manager will maintain numerous relationships across content/editorial teams including but not limited to Digital News, Sport, Features, Audio, Video, and the BBC News Channel. In addition, they will liaise with individual producers and other groups including PR, Marketing, Research, and Ad Sales. They will also serve as a leader on special projects and as necessary guide the work of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Editorial Alignment:
• Maintain a cohesive, forward-looking editorial calendar that merges content plans across numerous components of the BBC Global Digital News & Streaming group.
• Manage additional resources that showcase content initiatives in various formats (i.e., presentations, executive overviews, etc)
• Serve as main point-person to gather editorial plans from stakeholders

Long-Term Planning:
• Collaborate with leadership on long-term planning to help identify editorial opportunities and ensure a steady rollout of engaging content for non-UK audiences
• Lead the creation of a comprehensive database that captures pivotal news moments, holidays, anniversaries, and key competitive events for use across multiple teams

Internal Communications:
• Prepare materials for monthly Content Highlights presentations and present the editorial priorities in a portion of the meeting
• Act as a central source of information for overarching content initiatives
• Develop workflows to streamline communication, increase editorial planning and alignment, while fostering a collaborative environment that encourages information sharing

Ad hoc:
• Contribute to miscellaneous projects, presentations, and tasks to support the collaborative efforts of the BBC Global Digital News & Streaming group
• Support junior employees and interns by providing guidance on various projects and contribute to learning opportunities

Compensation

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $70k-$75k dependent on experience & market conditions.
