This person works closely with other journalists during the daily news cycle while balancing longer-term projects. This journalist responds to news and assignments with a sense of urgency and feels comfortable moving between breaking news and feature stories ⁠—and challenging the conventions of what a story is. You should be comfortable taking the lead in visual content creation, photography and/or video work, or pitching in to expand on the work and ideas of others. We’ll also be looking to you to actively embrace experimentation on all platforms and stay abreast of trends in social media.

Responsibilities

Core job responsibilities include:

• Help lead efforts to enhance daily and long-term news content across platforms.
• Assist with the daily programming of The Sun’s main social media accounts, with the shared responsibility to grow, enhance, and leverage our presence on these platforms.
• Create and edit content in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Serve as a project manager on long-term digital initiatives, working at times with sales and marketing, developers and reporting teams.
• Newsroom experience is preferred.

Qualifications
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced breaking news environment. Understanding of journalistic standards and ethics.
• Understanding of design fundamentals including composition, color, typography, UX.
• Proficiency with Adobe suite including Photoshop, Premiere and InDesign.
• Familiarity with social media platforms including, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, among others.
• Proven track record of creating original content, including photos and video.
• 1-2 years of experience. Willingness to adapt to new technologies is a necessity.
• This position requires some weekend and/or evening hours.
