About the Job:
• Assist customers in all aspects of service and create enhanced shopping experiences

The Dog Placement Matchmaker (MM) assists clients in finding the dog best suited to their home. But moreover, Matchmakers are representatives for the dogs—especially those often overlooked in the shelter environment. We use our knowledge of the individual dogs, behavior training and the rescue field to develop cutting-edge initiatives that help connect the dogs with the right people. Our primary goal is to reduce the length of stay for all dogs (with a focus on large-breed adult dogs), so we are constantly developing our methods and practices to push that number lower. This is a full-time, nonexempt position and reports to the Dog Placement Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Greet customers to ensure that every client has a welcoming and guided experience.
• Maintain active customer service throughout the entire 8-hour shift is a daily expectation
• Stays current on dogs both on site and in foster - update appropriate documents
• Provide guidance to clients in selecting the right dog for their home
• Stay up to date on relevant behavioral and health information and training plans for all onsite dogs
• Be comfortable discussing complex dog behaviors with clients in a vernacular that can be easily understood
• Ensure all required paperwork for adopters and fosters is completed accurately
• Educates adopters and fosters in order to be as successful as possible bringing home their new dog
• Coaches adopters and fosters on lower level behavioral and medical needs
• Review and analyze data for all onsite dogs
• Update compatibility scores and internal notes for all dogs when new information is available and ensure information is accurate on online profiles
• Create personalized kennel cards for all onsite dogs to aid clients in their search
• Communicate within the MM department and with other departments to ensure efficiency in assisting clients
• Respond to email inquiries from clients interested in onsite dogs or Matchmaking services in a professional and timely manner
• Ensure safe and productive interactions when introducing dogs to clients.
• Each Matchmaker is responsible for ensuring that they are aware of all applicable and available behavioral and health information that may affect their interactions when meeting new clients
• Use discretion to determine the best location and manner in which to present each dog to each client
• Conduct regular hands-on training sessions with onsite dogs
• Willingness to learn, and adherence to, APA’s methods of dog behavioral training, under the guidance and training of APA Behavior Team members
• Demonstrate confidence in discussing and demonstrating training and behavioral management methods to clients
• Develop, implement and maintain MM initiatives to increase the number of placements of adult large breed dogs into adoptive and/or foster homes
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with volunteers to increase volunteer retention on the team
• Recruit and train new MM volunteers
• Meet with advocates and dog-walking volunteers to discuss notes for marketing dogs
• Participate in proactive outreach to potential adopters and fosters
• Assist with daily tracking of appointments and initiatives

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• Attend and participate in all required training sessions and meetings
• Maintain open and consistent communication with Program Manager or designee, supervisor, and other colleagues
• Able to work remotely on occasion and demonstrate time management to complete job responsibilities
• Able to react to change productively and perform other related duties as assigned
• Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Able to work in a high volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPECTATIONS:
• Must be open and adaptable to new procedures and ways of working
• Must have experience working with dogs, and be able to handle large dogs safely
• Customer service experience is required
• Leadership experience or comparable is required
• Experience in dog behavior training is preferable
• Must be proficient with email, word processing, and spreadsheets

The organization continues to innovate best practices to save lives and teaches its renowned lifesaving model through American Pets Alive!, APA!’s national division. In 2020, AmPA! began the Human Animal Support Services (HASS) project, a collaborative movement of more than 10,000 animal welfare professionals working in nearly 1,900 organizations. HASS is the first-of-its-kind collective of shelters and animal welfare professionals coming together to build community-focused animal services that better meet the needs of people and pets by keeping human-animal families together and keeping pets unnecessarily out of shelters.

POSITION SUMMARY/OVERVIEW: The Dog Foster Placement Specialist works closely with animal shelters around the State of Texas to advocate for their dogs at highest risk of euthanasia. This role requires an organized, empathetic candidate who is familiar with a fast-paced work environment and who can provide excellent customer service to both APA!'s rescue partners and foster base.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Reviewing emails from our partner shelters with information about dogs at-risk for upcoming euthanasia
• Writing daily “pleas” to fosters with information about the dogs that need immediate placement
• Handling foster dog intakes and handoffs to foster parents.
• Handling animals that may have parasites or contagious diseases, taking the proper precautions to prevent the spread of disease, and educating fosters thereon.
• Coordinating with the Intake Coordinator, the Behavior Team, the Medical Team, and rescue partners to maximize placement of dogs in foster, with a special emphasis on big dogs, behavior dogs, and medical dogs.
• Working with fosters/potential fosters to match them with appropriate dogs
• Recruiting and training foster parents, with a special emphasis on behavioral and medical specialized fosters.
• Recruiting, training, and scheduling DFP volunteers
• Leading and participating in foster committees and other groups.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• Attend and participate in all required training sessions and meetings
• Maintain open and consistent communication with Program Manager or designee, supervisor, and other colleagues

The basic function of the TLAC Care Specialist is to assist in the care and management of the dogs. The key functions of the TLAC Care Specialist include fitting them for appropriate gear, overseeing the wellness of the dogs through daily checklists, meeting the established Dog Care expectations, and ensuring all TLAC dogs are walked/go to playgroup at least two outings per day. THIS POSITION WILL START AS A FLOATER - TRAINED IN ALL DOG CARE POSITIONS AND ABLE TO MOVE WHERE NEEDED.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Walk dogs and take dogs to playgroup twice a day.
• Assist where needed in the administration of medications, preventatives, and intake.
• Keep a watchful eye on the dogs throughout the day and communicate any concerns about their health/welfare to the manager immediately.

The basic function of this position is to support the Dog Behavior Adoption Liaison. The goal of this position is to give adopters and fosters more hands on support and training prior to taking one of our dogs home, provide more concise and timely assistance to our adoptions staff and allow the other members of the behavior staff to focus on behavior modification, training, assessments, volunteer support and playgroup. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. This position will be an assistant to the Dog Behavior Adoption Liaison and reports directly to the Dog Behavior Placement Manager.

Essential Functions
• Conduct and document required behavior consults during the adoption or foster process
• Conduct and document initial introductions to potential adopters and fosters for dogs that require Behavior Staff support
• Facilitate dog/dog meet and greets that require Behavior Staff support
• Answer questions, give updates and communicate with the matchmaker, foster and adoption teams about dog’s scores, home setups, approvals for exceptions and special cases
• Speak with adopters that need to return a dog
• Conduct introductory or basic pre-adopt/pre-foster training sessions in the moment when time allows including basic TOP and leash skills demo, introduction to muzzle desensitization, tie-down exercises, friendly stranger greetings, etc. and can occur in conjunction with the behavior consult if possible
• Oversee the pre-adopt/pre-foster training list and coordinate communications with the Behavior Staff member responsible for further pre-adopt/foster sessions
• Assist onsite behavior training team with behavior walks/feeds, playgroup sessions, playgroup assessments and behavior modification with dogs when time allows
• Complete administrative tasks related to all of the above

Other Functions
• Attend and participate in all required training sessions and meetings
• Maintain open and consistent communication with Program Manager or designee, supervisor, and other colleagues
• Able to react to change productively and perform other related duties as assigned
• Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Able to work in a high volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, And EXPECTATIONS
• At least one (1) year of experience working or volunteering in an animal shelter
• Familiarity with the Dogs Playing for Life Program is desirable

The Director of Philanthropy, Campaigns and Events, is an adept project and people manager with experience running successful multichannel fundraising campaigns. Required:

POSITION SUMMARY/OVERVIEW:

The Shelter Population Coordinator will help ensure efficient movement of cats and dogs through the shelter and into a foster or adoption placement. Their overall goal is to reduce the length of stay in the shelter for most animals by identifying challenges to movement and working with team managers to provide and implement solutions. As APA! shifts to a foster-centric model, the Population Coordinator will play a critical role in ensuring that all shelter animals in need are moving quickly to the most appropriate placement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Oversee process for and completion of daily shelter population and kennel inventory rounds, including escalation of concerns to appropriate managers
• Work closely with various team managers to ensure timely and thorough data entry and updates in the shelter records system at every stage
• Oversee Care Pathways program, including maintaining processes for identifying animals needing additional support and managing CP volunteers

• Intake and discharge patients, including bathing them out of the ward
• Administer medications orally, subcutaneously, and intravenously
• Place catheters and drawing blood
• Communicate verbally and in writing with volunteers, other programs, peers, and Managers
• Communicate with other shelters to approve/deny incoming parvo dogs
• Maintain parvo ward cleanliness and organization

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• Attend and participate in all required training sessions and meetings
• Maintain open and consistent communication with Program Manager or designee, supervisor, and other colleagues
• Able to react to change productively and perform other related duties as assigned
• Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Able to work in a high volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment

Level 1 ICU Technicians are entry level employees with no previous animal care experience or less than 6 months of experience in the field. Volunteer hours in parvo contribute to level advancement. Complete training in a timely manner. Typically two to three weeks. $18 an hour for a non certified veterinary technician.
• Learn how to care team animals
• Learn how to treat animals with PO, SQ, and IV medications.
• Be able to work solo shifts after three weeks of training.
• Complete opening and closing tasks in a timely manner.
• Will have knowledge of Shelterluv, Gmail, Gchat, and Waitwhile.
• Intake parvo/panleuk animals into the ward.
• Document all findings on the medical treatment sheets.
• Accurately documenting all pertinent information in Shelterluv.
• Train volunteers on essential, care, and medical tasks.
• Follow quarantine protocols.
• Perform post parvo bathouts and intake exams.
• Cleans and sanitizes cages, kennels, equipment, and treatment areas to maintain the sanitary conditions of the parvo ward.
• Assists in euthanasia appointments and appropriately store and label deceased animals
• Able to identify emergency and urgent situations and communicate concerns to relevant staff to triage
• Appropriately and effectively restrains and handles animals for exams and treatments

Level 2 ICU Technicians have a minimum of 1 year of animal care experience. Volunteer hours in parvo contribute to this level of advancement. $19 an hour for a non certified veterinary technician.
• Complete all requirements of a Level 1 assistant.
• Train level 1 staff members on protocols.
• Performs animal triage and treatment with limited assistance
• Proficient with blood draws, catheter placement, and all forms of injection
• Calculates out dosages for all medications with no assistance
• Confidently handles emergency situations following protocols and with veterinary direction
• Eligible to cross train in the clinic if time permits.

Level 3 Lead Position ICU Technicians has a minimum of one year of animal care experience and or certification as a Veterinary Assistant or a licensed Veterinary technician. Volunteer hours in parvo contribute to experience. This position has limited openings, dependent on availability.
• Complete all requirements of Level 1 and Level 2 assistant.
• Train level 1 and level 2 staff members.
• Comfortability with handling animals with varied behavior levels
• Takes lead on emergency situations with little to no veterinary direction
• Can place solo IV catheters with no assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPECTATIONS:
• Knowledge of standard canine illnesses preferred
• Experience as a veterinary technician, or experience as an APA! Parvo or APA! Clinic Volunteer preferred
• Able to give injections SQ and IV. Ability to draw blood and place IV catheters is preferred
• Knowledge of basic medications, vaccines, drugs preferred
• Understand the current APA! medical protocols

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to routinely lift 40-50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
• Must have the ability to restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments with or without reasonable accommodations
• Must have the ability to stand/bend/kneel for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodations
• Must be able to work around dogs with varying temperaments, including those that are diseased, injured, and/or potentially aggressive
• Must be comfortable working around unpleasant smells, loud noises, and a variety of standard cleaning supplies and chemicals

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Work is primarily performed in the Parvo ICU Ward, with exposure to environmental conditions that include working with and near animals
• Uses own transportation to travel and transport
• Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required to support program needs
• Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises, bites, scratches and animal waste
• Possible exposure to contagious diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people

• May travel to offsite locations as needed

TIME COMMITMENT: The Parvo ICU is staffed every day of the year including weekends and holidays. Shifts are subject to change based on the need for coverage.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The Parvo ICU Assistant will be working with parvo volunteers and staff, APA! veterinarians, clinic staff, and members of other APA! Programs. This position reports directly to the Parvo ICU Manager.
