All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary

The Arkansas Department of Correction/Department of Community Correction (ADC/DCC) Corporal is responsible for maintaining security and directing the activities of inmates/residents during an assigned shift or observing the behavior of inmates/residents and documenting records as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Provides job training, monitors the work activities of inmates/residents by guarding them while they are on work-release, maintaining inventory of all keys, tools, and equipment, and keeping a firm count of inmates/residents at all times. Conducts daily searches of contraband both inside and outside the facility. Manages specific programs, such as inmate/resident property, inmate/resident discipline and job training. Performs security checks of buildings and grounds. Searches inmates/residents and their living quarters. Prepares and maintains written reports concerning incidences of inmate/residents disturbances and/or injuries and disciplinary actions. Attends various meetings, including briefings to discuss incidents and problems, security issues, and inspections during shifts. Escorts and transports inmates/residents to work assignments, other unit areas, or court hearings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Dimensions

Frequent shift work, exposure to danger, and emergency on-call duty may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of correctional department policies and procedures. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities. Ability to supervise inmates/residents performing work tasks. Ability to write reports, read, and understand rules and regulations. Ability to conduct investigations. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to perform security inspection of buildings and grounds.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma. For Community Correction (DCC) positions, one year of experience in correctional security or law enforcement is required. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. • Operates the computer, experience required with Microsoft Office Software as well as general knowledge of the Windows Operating System and Photo editing software.
• Handle all typing and word processing.
• Maintain funeral home files.

Other Responsibilities
• Oversee the clean and appropriate operation of the garden room area.
• Maintain cleanliness of office.
• Assist in answering all customer inquiries.
• Assist with daily operations of the funeral home as directed by management.

Supervisory Responsibility

As directed by Funeral Home Manager.

Education Or Experience

High school diploma plus additional training as provided by the funeral home and Denver Roller Incorporated.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, or governmental regulations. Ability to compose original correspondence and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the managers, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percents.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

Other Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of all aspects of the business dimension of the funeral profession, including bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchasing. A sound knowledge of accepted business procedures and operation of office equipment. Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Other Requirements

Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills; compassionate understanding and ability to deal with all aspects of grief. Valid drivers license.
