Shift Details: This is a Full Time position (30 hours/week) This will include Monday-Friday, with a Saturday rotation.

Summary:
The Lead Veterinary Technician trains, supervises, and assists veterinary support staff to plan, coordinate, and perform a variety of duties concerned with animal health and client education, and to promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical work and administrative detail at Animalia Health and Wellness. This position also encompasses all the duties of the veterinary technician.
Essential Functions:
Technical:
• Working alongside the inventory manager to purchase pharmaceutical supplies and medications including the maintenance of controlled substance and surgery logs.
• Maintain inventory and maintenance of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies.
• Performs all skills and functions related to Veterinary Technician job description.
Client Service
• Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea, and heartworm products, and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, spay and neuter, and boarding.
• Educate clients and team members on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
• Assist in all aspects of hospital performance which includes but not limited to answering phones, scheduling appointments, client call backs, prescription requests etc.
• Veterinary Policies/Procedures/Equipment
• Ensure that the hospital and its employees are compliant with federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA, Radiation, state board requirements and DEA. Oversees the ordering of dosimetry badges, tracking and storage. Inform the Practice Manager and Medical Lead of any regulatory issues.
• Follow and enforce hospital policies set forth by the Practice Manager and Medical Lead.
Personnel
• Train, supervise, and assist the veterinary support staff in their performance of a variety of technical and client education duties that facilitate the work of the veterinarians, groomer and any team member who directly or indirectly provide patient care.
• Facilitate technical team members breaks and lunches.
• Make recommendations to the Practice Manager concerning personnel matters, disciplinary actions and follow through. Provide follow up feedback to direct supervisor to help them continue to coach employees as needed.
• Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Mediate interpersonal problems and address concerns from Technicians and veterinary support staff.
• Conduct monthly departmental meetings and schedule in-service meetings as deemed appropriate and necessary.
• Manage down time in clinic.
• Manage and contribute to the overall flow of the clinic.
• Create technical schedules that align with doctor, team, surgery, and outpatient needs while monitoring overtime and payroll costs. Arrange to cover shifts by either seeking coverage by technical team or covering shifts yourself.
• Participate in a minimum of once weekly meetings with direct supervisor to discuss overall hospital health and departmental needs.
Competency:
• Recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative, and supervisory problems in the assigned area. Position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving technical problems within established policies and practices and is reviewed by the supervisor through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
• Possession of strong organizational skills and are demonstrated consistently in business activity.
• Knowledge of the spelling and meaning of commonly used terminology of veterinary medicine.
• Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
• Critical thinking - Understanding logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Ability to multi-task - prioritize multiple large tasks and meet deadlines.

• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Requires active listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points to be made, asking questions as appropriate.
• Working alongside Practice Manager to address negative feedback on NPS and celebrate positive feedback.
• Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
• Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or the practice to make improvements and communicate with Practice Manager in order to take corrective action.
• Supporting others on how to perform a task in accordance with protocols and policies.

• Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications.
• Perform or oversee routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

• Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
