We are AARP Foundation Litigation, the litigating unit of AARP Foundation. We are looking for a top-notch rising third-year or advanced degree law student with a passion for litigation to work with us to end senior poverty. If you are a critical thinker, an eager learner, and a team player who wants to gain valuable experience in public interest law, read on. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of May/June 2024.

Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of AARP Foundation attorneys, you will:
• Conduct legal research
• Draft memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents
• Assist in civil discovery
• Interview current and potential clients
• Work with outside co-counsel
• Participate in litigation strategy

Qualifications
• Rising third-year or advanced degree (e.g., L.L.M.) law student at the start of the internship
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency with WESTLAW and other legal research platforms
• Significant experience with The Blue Book: A Uniform System of Citation
• Demonstrated public interest/public service interest or experience
• In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise

The Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer (CDO) assume responsibility for directing comprehensive development and fundraising initiatives across the entire AARP enterprise, including AARP Foundation, AARP advocacy and affiliated charitable entities. They conceptualize the vision and drive the execution of strategies aimed at enhancing the organization's sustainability, encompassing growth through contributions, sponsorships, grants (both public and private), life income gifts, and other planned or deferred commitments such as bequests from estates and beneficiary designations.

This role involves formulating investment strategies aligned with organizational objectives to support overall growth. The CDO leads a team of development professionals responsible for key strategies and the management of pipelines for both existing and potential donors, spanning direct response, major gifts, gift planning, and institutional support (corporate, foundation, and government agencies). Collaboration with each organization is crucial to advancing its mission through revenue growth, and engagement with respective boards is essential for setting and adhering to board policies related to solicitation and gift acceptance.

Furthermore, the CDO upholds the highest ethical standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners. Overseeing organization-wide development and fundraising goals, the CDO plays a pivotal role in advancing the missions of the organization, AARP Foundation, and other charitable affiliates.

Responsibilities
• Works with the executive leadership of each organization (e.g., Older Adults Technology Services (OATS)) to establish goals, investments, a case for support, and strategies that help reach organizational goals and fundraising targets.
• Leads a team of development professionals to establish and execute strategies that help grow the pipeline of potential donors and meet fundraising targets for all related entities.
• Communicates with and shares progress with organizational leadership (e.g., board leadership, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Operating Officer (COO)) on outcomes, trends, opportunities, and risks for development and fundraising.
• Keeps track of external data and metrics that can inform or provide insights on changes in philanthropy or giving.
• Provides the team with resources, training, guidance, and support that help ensure personal and organizational success in meeting goals.
• Ensures members of the team are in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and board policies (e.g., gift acceptance) pertaining to gifts, contributions, grants, and other charitable support raised.

Qualifications
• Possesses a Bachelor's Degree and brings over 15 years of valuable experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in leading a dynamic team of development professionals, devising and implementing strategies to cultivate potential donors, and achieving fundraising targets across all relevant entities.
• Proficient communication skills, including the ability to update organizational leadership (e.g., board leadership, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Operating Officer (COO)) on development and fundraising outcomes, trends, opportunities, and risks.
• Proven track record of achieving successful nine-digit fundraising goals across various platforms, including major giving, direct response, and institutional avenues (foundation/corporate/government).
• Aptitude for utilizing both internal and external data and metrics to derive insights and inform strategies, keeping abreast of changes in philanthropy and giving trends.
• A strong commitment to upholding ethical standards set by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners is expected and evident in the candidate's track record.

For this position, we anticipate offering a salary of $95,000 per year. This role is also eligible to participate in an annual incentive plan with a percentage up to 12.5%.
