The Director of Quality and Clinical Standards will oversee the development of the Academy’s programs and materials that advance quality of care and quality improvement in ophthalmology. These activities include practice guideline development, technology assessment, and diagnostic, safety and quality improvements that are intended to improve clinical decision-making and enhance quality of care... KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• STRATEGY AND PLANNING- Provide strategic direction and lead the Academy's quality of care efforts, including the practice guideline, technology assessment, diagnostic, safety, and quality improvements, including working with hundreds of ophthalmologist volunteers. Anticipate and create new quality of care initiatives to address emerging and relevant issues (e.g., myopia, COVID-19, climate change, etc.), and developing evidence-based policy statements.
• QUALITY CARE- Provide methodological leadership on the Academy’s practice guideline, technology assessment, diagnostic, safety, and quality improvements, liaise with other society, governmental and non-governmental organizations on quality of care activities, represent the Academy at meetings and present and write articles to educate ophthalmologists.
• METHODOLOGY- Provide strategic direction and methodological guidance to the Vice President, Governmental Affairs, the Medical Director for Governmental Affairs, and the Secretary for Federal Affairs on health policy, coverage and access, and advocacy positions.
• MANAGEMENT- Provide staff leadership and management, coaching for performance.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Medical Degree (M.D.) strongly preferred. Consideration may be given to non-practicing International Medical Graduates (IMGs)
• Clinical Training in Ophthalmology, strong asset
• Healthcare systematic reviews and meta-analyses knowledge
• Medical knowledge and content
• Ophthalmology knowledge and content
• Clinical trial and observational study methodology knowledge
• Understanding of reference libraries/databases – Pubmed, Cochrane Library
• Overall understanding of the US health system and policy making process
