Position Summary

The Instructional Designer, Textbooks and Trade Books takes content of secondary textbooks, trade books, and other instructional materials through any necessary creation or revision to a final edited version for final production in a timely manner to meet the publishing schedule. Writing and editing may include developing curriculum maps and revising, substantive editing or writing, layout editing, verifying biblical accuracy, verifying research, and proofreading. May oversee the work of contractors in the development of academic content, evaluating academic content to ensure quality standards are met and editing materials by subject matter experts for the Christian education market.May collaborate in the process of transforming textbook content into digital formats such as courseware so that Purposeful Design Publications (PDP) products will be regarded as excellent in their instructional emphasis and be of the highest quality, reflecting favorably on the name of Christ and the work of ACSI as an educational authority.

This is a remote position; work will be performed from a home office.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
• Collaborate with PDP managers and coordinators in planning for future projects by providing expertise in educational standards, benchmarks, and other college-and career-readiness factors important to each grade’s content; utilize best teaching practices and instructional design methodologies across environments and digital platforms; diligently stay up-to-date on current educational research and trends; have knowledge of competitors’ work; incorporate student learning methodologies; incorporate Lexile metrics; develop curriculum maps and scopes and sequences; and estimate length of projects and personnel needs
• Manuscript preparation: Edit, write, and proofread manuscripts for content, writing style, and mechanics; maintain form, style, and brand in accordance with ACSI/PDP standards; provide edited text to design/production; and verify final stage is prepared for the printer
• Manuscript evaluation: When requested, read and evaluate the written quality of manuscripts submitted for publication; consider whether ACSI/PDP writing and brand standards can be met for publication; provide authors with editorial and educational industry suggestions to improve the quality and clarity of the content
• Production/design: Work with production/design staff and the job client to ensure appropriate design, art, and layouts; coordinate activities with production/design staff to meet schedule deadlines
• Assist in managing various components, such as copyrights, permissions, and attribution to meet technical and legal requirements of content
• All other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits

Starting Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000 annually; based on work experience, education, training, knowledge, skills, and internal and external equity.

Employees may choose from benefits including HDHP and copay medical plans, dental, vision, health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, health savings account, 403b retirement plan, and supplemental life and disability insurance. • Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education or in Curriculum and Instruction Design; Master’s degree preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe
• Effective oral and written communication
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to closely follow content requirements in terms of style and project specifications
