Its focus is to educate career-minded individuals in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM careers), giving them the tools to succeed, while helping to shape their communities, locally and beyond. Our goal... is to help stimulate economic growth in our region by establishing a STEM educated workforce — a necessary resource in today's economy.

Mission:
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is an independent educational institution offering innovative academic and research programs in science and technology that respond to local and global needs. The institution fosters a diverse community of learners, provides access and support to students who want to pursue a career in science and technology, and supports business creation and economic development.

The Varsity Esports Program at HU:
A trailblazer in collegiate esports, Harrisburg University’s Esports varsity team—the HU Storm–sets the standard. HU Storm’s Overwatch team is a 3-time National Champion team having won the 2019 ESPN Collegiate Overwatch National Championship, the 2020 Tespa National Championship, and the 2022 NACE National Championship. Additionally, the Storm’s League of Legends team has been consistently ranked top 10 in the nation, having won several major competitions over the years. Esports is Harrisburg University’s first and only athletic program and thus, it has become a very significant part of the institution’s identity and focus.

To date, Harrisburg University is one of few institutions offering only full-ride scholarships to its Varsity esports student-athletes. By Fall 2022, HU will have an estimated 21 student-athletes under full-ride scholarship. In addition to Overwatch and League of Legends, Rocket League has officially been announced as the program’s 3rd supported title that will field its first team in the Spring of 2022. The program prides itself on providing professional industry-level coaching for the development of internationally recruited student-athletes in esports. All of the Varsity program’s Coaches and Staff have extensive experience working in esports at both the Professional and Collegiate levels.

About Coaching in the Varsity Esports Program at HU:
Harrisburg University is interested in hiring a Varsity Rocket League Coach who will manage the day-to-day operations of the Rocket League team at HU. This will include, for example, the scheduling and execution of high-quality, daily practices for the team, the creation of daily educational review sessions, the organization of regular team-building activities, the annual recruitment (both domestic and international) of student-athletes for the Rocket League team that reflects the standard of the full-ride scholarship opportunity being offered at HU, and the selection of the nation’s most relevant Collegiate Esports competitions in which the team will compete. Additionally, it will be important for the Coach to become familiar with all of the various departments at the University that may concern themselves with esports at HU.

This is not your typical University Staff position in the sense that being a Coach of one of our Varsity esports teams will require you to work late into the evenings and weekends in order to fulfill practice and competition scheduling requirements. As it is of significant value to esports as a whole and the program at HU, the Coach will be required to establish a strong presence and representation of HU on all relevant social media platforms. In addition to developing a professional social media presence, the Coach is expected to be willing to engage in public speaking activities in the form of various educational panels, sessions, conferences, and conventions pertaining to Collegiate esports.

The Rocket League Coach will report to the Director of Esports and will work with all other Varsity program Staff and Coaches to ensure the creative and innovative direction of Esports at HU in order to maintain the University’s position as a leader at the forefront of Collegiate Esports.

Qualifications:
Harrisburg University requires dedicated professionals who have the experience and desire to work in an active and collaborative environment that stresses high quality service delivery, entrepreneurial spirit and close contact with a diverse group of internal and external constituents. HU is committed to the support and encouragement of a multicultural environment and seeks candidates who can make a positive contribution in this context.

The university is seeking exceptionally qualified individuals who have a strong grasp and familiarity with Collegiate and Professional esports alike, their differences and similarities, the particular and relevant esports communities that constitute the Rocket League scene, and strong relationships with other coaches, players, and staff in esports. We are looking for entrepreneurs and leaders with solid Collegiate industry and academic backgrounds who can shape our rapidly growing programs.

Interested candidates should possess a/an:

• Earned Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Sport Management or other related fields

• At least one year of Rocket League coaching experience or 3 years of coaching experience in other major esports titles. In the case that a candidate does not have Rocket League coaching experience, preference will be given to those who have coached extensively in titles of a similar genre (i.e. CS:GO)

• Prior industry experience is required, and some Collegiate coaching experience is preferred

• Willingness, ability, and aptitude for coaching that go beyond just knowing the game.

• Ability to initiate and supervise interdisciplinary, applied projects

• Areas of specialization span the broad range of sports management
