Operating under the general direction of the Director of Social Emotional Learning this position functions as District representative working to identify and advocate for at-risk youth, students, and teens within Mesa County. Employee works interdependently with Teachers, Coaches, Building Leaders, Directors, and other in aligning to District priorities to ensure and provide prevention support programs to prevent academic, behavioral, and/or social/emotional failure. Coordinator acts as a technical resource regarding the development and delivery of Prevention and Intervention Services and help identify and provide support to current and potential at-risk individuals. Other responsibilities include ongoing research and promoting evidence-based practices. In addition, and as assigned, this position may also oversee a variety of applicable operational duties including budgeting, grant writing and management, overseeing staffing needs, managing training obligations and outreach/networking with community and other agencies.

Job Summary:
LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION DELIVERY: The primary responsibility for this Coordinator position is to ensure prevention and intervention program delivery. Coordinators work with teachers, building leaders, and others in the development of school and student supports, social emotional learning goals and action plans, while also seeking coherence and consistency with the D51 Learning Model. Duties and expectations toward this goal include:

Coaches, consults, and collaborates with District 51 school-based Specialists, Coaches, and Response to Intervention and Crisis teams to assist with providing support to students that may be at-risk for academic, behavioral, and/or social/emotional difficulties or failure. Duties include coordinating and monitoring the effectiveness of variety of programs for at-risk students as well as teaching and equipping staff with the knowledge, skills, and ability to recognize, respond to, and work effectively with at-risk students. Coordinator works to align programming with the District’s initiatives, the Performance Based Learning model, and staff Professional Learning goals which requires high developed skills for communications, collaboration, and connecting resources throughout all aspects of this work.

Assists staff, and other stakeholders to access and coordinate the appropriate services for identified students. Coordinator advocates for D51 students working with local organizations, alternative schools, and other agencies serving youth to provide the best opportunities for turn-around and future success. There is an expectation for the Coordinator to oversee staff efforts for parental involvement and engagement as one component of prevention and intervention efforts. This position also brings an understanding to staff regarding the impact homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, and a variety of other socio-economic circumstances have as common indicators and obstacles to these students’ success. Moreover, the Prevention Services Coordinator provides a technical expertise to D51 regarding these topics and there is an expectation for the employee to research and stay informed of current funding, research, and program opportunities.

Develops and implements programming that supports a continuous and integrated approach for students receiving these services. Training and professional development is centered around working with individuals and group academic, behavioral, and social/emotional skill development. The Prevention Services Coordinator monitors the progress and effectiveness of programs through continuous communication with staff to better understand the specific needs of individuals and how prevention services can better deliver to meet these needs.

Develops, maintains, and monitors a complex budget for the identification of at-risk individuals as well as for the development and implementation of prevention services programs. Coordinator works the Department Director to develop an annual budget that includes staffing needs and holds the responsibility to operate services within these parameters. In addition, employee ensures the alignment of Prevention Services programs and procedures with various acts and other legal obligations that include but are not limited to compliance with the McKinney-Vento Act and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Other fiduciary responsibilities may include writing, administering, monitoring, and reporting for various grants and federal funding for Prevention Services. There is also a component of data gathering, reporting and administrative work with this position and Coordinator is expected to conduct these duties in alignment with federal, state, local, and District laws, statutes, and guidelines.

STAFF SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT:

This position serves as a role model for site leadership directly overseeing and supervising intervention and prevention support staff in accordance with District policies and applicable laws. This Coordinator is charged with applying a staff development program that recognizes and supports both:

Student success as the primary focus;

And intertwines the applied principles of collaborative adult learning;

These duties encompass an expectation to develop behavior centered positions and administration support staff include:

Assigning and monitoring student caseloads;

Working one on one with staff to grow their capacity and to ensure that they have the support to attain effectiveness on best practices and District processes/procedures;

Providing and brokering high quality research-based professional learning based on individual and group learning needs;

Acting as a coach to site leaders regarding prevention services, staff expectations, and best practices to ensure student healthcare needs are a continuous process at building sites;

Modeling effective communication and engagement practices through high quality written and oral communication with site leaders and district staff including well-written supervisory documents, office communication, and daily correspondence.

In addition, supervising and evaluating is conducted in the framework of program goals and expectations including a variety of human resources responsibilities but not limited to:

Interviewing, hiring, training, promoting, planning, and assigning work,

Conducting performance evaluations and instilling a motivational leadership culture within the District,

Coaching decisiveness in taking and communicating appropriate remedial actions regarding employee performance and conduct,

Addressing employee/student complaints and concerns and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Masters’ Degree in School Psychology, Social Work, Education, or other related field* required;

Minimum three years’ experience in mental health and/or intervention services environment;

Preference given for prior school district experience;

Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by the Director

Must have or be eligible for a Colorado Administrator’s or Principal’s license;

OR

Current Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) licensure (i.e. Licensed Professional Counselor, Mental Health Therapist, Social Worker etc.) AND the ability to obtain Colorado Administrator’s Licensure within 3 years of hire.

Responsibilities:

· Be part of an energetic and fun environment working closely with youth to provide alternatives to make a life changing positive impact

· Be involved with youth on attending summer camp, leadership conferences, motivational activities for youth

· Maintain positive lines of communication and support towards youth and their parents

· Involvement in all DHS ATOD prevention grant deliverables for youth targeted population

· Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate staff/persons in other agencies, schools and other community organizations

· Create and implement presentations to serve the needs of the community and increase community awareness of prevention (i.e., Kane County Institute Days, Elgin Police Department Panel Discussions)

· Maintain adequate activity records and submit requested reports to the ATOD Supervisor as directed

· Maintain a working knowledge of substance misuse with emphasis on local situations and developments

· Participate in activities/conferences that update knowledge and skills in prevention and the field of substance misuse in general

· Make recommendations concerning programs, policies, procedures and materials needed to improve the functioning of the Prevention Program as well as the Agency overall

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; or Prevention Certification and/or certification in a related field

· Must have excellent English communication skills

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be able to travel

· Valid Illinois driver’s license, automobile insurance and vehicle

· Bi-lingual Spanish is preferred, but not essential

· Full vaccination for Covid-19 required

Hours: 40 hours weekly with flexibility; Monday – Friday, occasional Sat/Sun and/or evenings. Hours vary depending on school year activities and class times. Could be as early as 6:45 a.m. on school days.
